Congratulations to Hathaway-Sycamores’ foster/adopt parents Kathleen and George Tiemubol who were honored as 2010 “Angels in Adoption” by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute at a recent awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. “Angels in Adoption” is an annual program that enables U.S. Congress members to recognize constituents who have enriched the lives of foster children and orphans nationwide as well as abroad.

The Tiemubols, nominated by U.S. Congressman David Dreir of California’s 26th District, were singled out for their general commitment to children in need, and specifically for their commitment to their adoptive son, Kevin, and soon-to-be-adoptive son, Leo. The Tiemubols, who met while both were working with impoverished children in Bangkok, Thailand, adopted Kevin, an 8-year-old Hispanic boy, last year. The couple currently is in the process of adopting their foster son, Leo, an 8-year-old Filipino boy. As a result of previous abuse and neglect, both youngsters have special needs, including emotional and educational challenges.

Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services has served as the Tiemubols’ foster-family and adoption agency. Commenting on the couple’s “Angeles In Adoption” award, Hathaway-Sycamores’ President and CEO William Martone said, “Kathleen and George are extremely compassionate individuals who have changed the lives of these two boys. Not only are they providing these youngsters with a loving, nurturing home, but they also are staunch advocates for children in need nationwide and internationally.”

Looking ahead, the Tiemubols plan to expand their family through both foster parenting and adoption. They also intend to continue increasing awareness regarding the many children who urgently need permanent, loving homes.
