Shot-at-a-Million Finalists

Although no one became an instant millionaire by sinking a hole-in-one, participants in Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services’ 2013 “Shot-at-a-Million” Golf Classic made a meaningful difference for children and families in need by raising over $120,000.  Proceeds from the annual event, which was held on May 17 at the Jack Nicklaus designed Angeles National Golf Club in Sunland, will help fund educational and therapeutic-treatment programs for the youngsters and families served by Hathaway-Sycamores.

More than 200 people took part in this year’s event, including golfers who raised money by teeing off at 7 a.m. for the “Longest Day of Golf” or taking part in the afternoon “Nine-Hole Team Challenge.” Ten golfers qualified to take a swing at a hole-in-one and walk away one- million-dollars richer, but no one made the 165-yard shot.  The event concluded with a “19th Hole After-Party” on the Club’s picturesque back patio overlooking the 18th green. In addition to catered refreshments, entertainment, and a silent auction, numerous prizes were raffled, including a seven-night stay and airfare for two at the Fairmont Kea Lani Maui, as well as a three-night stay – along with airfare for two – at the Hilton New York Hotel.

The winning raffle tickets were drawn by Hathaway-Sycamores’ Board Member Ken Goldstein. Decked out in a Dodger blue uniform, Goldstein also announced that Hathaway-Sycamores’ annual, signature fundraising event – “Celebrating Children” – would be held this year on Sept. 24 at Dodger Stadium. He additionally announced that Pasadena residents John and Linda Seiter would be honored at the event for their longtime support of Hathaway-Sycamores.

Randy said he considers them his second family, and knows that they always will be part of his life.  Click here to watch the KCBS News story about Randy Escanuelas’ foster dad, Martin Mancilla.

Hathaway-Sycamores’ President and CEO William Martone thanked everyone in attendance for their generous support of Hathaway-Sycamores and making a positive difference in the lives of youngsters – many of whom have endured unimaginable trauma. “While most of you aren’t standout golfers, all of you are standouts when it comes to helping struggling kids receive the healing care they need to reclaim their lives. We can’t thank you enough, and hope to see you again next year.”
