Los Altos Auxiliary Benefit: April 27, 2014

LosAltos-WineThe Los Altos Auxiliary of Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services will be hosting its annual wine-tasting fundraiser on Sunday, April 27th from 4-6:30pm. The event, “Wines of France, A Tasting Experience” will be held at the charming La Cañada Thursday Club in La Cañada Flintridge.

Guests will enjoy seven highly rated regional French wines, starting with a sparkling Crémant followed by crisp elegant whites and then moving on to heartier lush reds, including both a Bourgogne Blanc and a Vouvray and a Châteufneuf-du-Pape and a Côtes du Rhône. Light appetizers, prepared specifically to pair with the selected wines, will be served and an enticing array of silent-auction baskets will also be available for bidding.

For the second year, volunteer culinary students will prepare and serve the food offerings under the direction of Chef Jamie Colboth-MacLeod from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Los Angeles. Los Altos is also excited to be partnering this year with the new Gelson’s Market in La Cañada. Gelson’s is underwriting a generous portion of the food costs.

Proceeds from the event, which is being co-chaired by La Cañada Flintridge residents, Michele Listo and Diane Poryes, will be used to help care for and brighten the lives of youngsters – many of whom have endured unimaginable trauma – who live at Hathaway-Sycamores’ El Nido campus in Altadena.  Nestled in the foothills of Altadena, the residential-facility provides therapeutic services and special education in a nurturing environment that fosters both healing and individual growth. Proceeds from last year’s wine tasting event were used to enhance the outdoor space adjacent to the residential dining room and “cyber café” that were remodeled and added to the facility in 2012. The space provides a beautiful relaxing outdoor space for recreation as well as one-on-one therapy sessions, group therapy, tutoring and studying.

Event tickets are $75. For more information, to RSVP or purchase tickets visit the Los Altos website or call 818-618-3393.
