On January 30th, Hathaway-Sycamores’ President & CEO Debbie Manners, Board Chair Elizabeth Hoxworth, Emeritus Board Chair Mike Galper and V.P. of Public Policy & Advocacy Wendy Wang along with other members of the California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA) gathered at the California State Capitol to advocate for children and young adults with mental health and substance use disorders.

In total 35 individuals representing approximately 27 members of the California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies met with legislators and their staff to advance CBHA’s 2018 policy agenda. Longtime friend and supporter Senator Anthony Portantino was among those present to welcome the Hathaway-Sycamores’ delegation and other CBHA members. During the prior afternoon, the Hathaway-Sycamores’ delegation joined CBHA members to better understand the state budget process, policy priorities, and network with key stakeholders.  This time re-affirmed the importance of asking legislators to support local counties’ ability to execute contracts with non-profit organizations without additional onerous requirements; ensure continuation of the state MHSA Workforce Education & Training programs; and adopt the proposed framework for allocation of Proposition 64 funds.
