Thank you to everyone who took part in Vino Italiano hosted by the members of Los Altos Auxiliary earlier this month. Over 200 guests attended the benefit at the picturesque La Cañada Thursday Club in La Cañada Flintridge.

Los Altos Auxiliary of Hathaway-Sycamores wine event

The 10th annual wine event, the largest fundraiser of the year for the 40-member group, raises funds for Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services’ El Nido residential campus. Guests, mingling on the oak tree shaded patio, enjoyed highly rated regional Italian wines and tasty tidbits while supporting Los Altos via a silent auction and wine pull. The delicious bites were provided by Porta Via. In addition to the great wine and food, and the wonderful company, guests at the event heard from Jerry Salazar. As a youth Jerry spent some time in residential care. He shared his personal story and the obstacles he has overcome, including being abandoned by his mother (who struggled with depression) when he was only two days old. He credits the darkness and suffering that he experienced in his early life with molding him into the giving person he is today. Today he works as a Youth Advocate at our El Nido campus in addition to being a student at Pasadena City College. Jerry is dedicated to helping the youth at El Nido who are confronting similar struggles to the ones he faced. His deeply moving story reaffirmed for those present the need and the importance of the work at El Nido to help foster youth in extremely challenging circumstances.

Special thanks for the successful fundraiser went to co-chairs La Cañada Flintridge residents Lisa Dick, Michele Listo and Laura Campobasso.
