Generous Supporters Made the 2018 Holidays Bright for those We Serve

As Hathaway-Sycamores heads into a new year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful 2018 season of giving. Thanks to numerous individuals, organizations and companies who offered their support, we were able to help the children, youth and families we serve feel at home for the holidays.

Holiday giving took on many forms. We received hundreds of donations through our toy drive which staff picked up and distributed to children and teens receiving services at our 10 locations across Los Angeles County!

Some of these donations went to a toy giveaway at the holiday family festival hosted by our Highland Park Family Resource Center. This fun-filled day was made possible through the support of the Junior League of Los Angeles, who hosted holiday activities including cookie decorating and ornament making. The nearly 200 children and families attending were treated to lunch, generously donated by La Chiquita Mexicana Restaurant.

Our long-standing Adopt-A-Family program was also a popular giving option, championed by a number of individuals and companies. The program aims to support every member of the family with gifts as well as other goods such as groceries to make the holiday bright. Donors were so enthusiastic, some adopted multiple families! These compassionate individuals ensured that all families needing support this year were adopted.

The holidays can be an especially challenging time for the boys we serve at our El Nido campus, who may not be able to spend it with their families. Thanks to the care from staff and a multitude of donors, we are able to fill it with cheer for them. The Southern California Gas Company is one of the many groups who get involved, having set a yearly tradition that the boys love – the holiday pancake breakfast, which kicked off the month of December this year.  Our foster family recruiting partner Foster All also invited the boys to be part of a special citywide pre-Christmas breakfast, hosted by participating churches in Los Angeles. Our Los Altos Auxiliary group, whose year-round efforts are focused on supporting the El Nido campus, visited the boys during the holidays to give them Target gifts cards and yummy holiday snacks. Volunteer group Las Candelas donated and served a special dinner from Stonefire Grill. Colleen Schwab and her friends held their traditional stuffing party to make special movie ticket packs for each boy. The Parsons Corporation held a holiday lunch, with STEM activities and a magic show at the Parsons Complex. John and Linda Seiter also continued their annual tradition of treating the youth to Christmas Eve dinner out. Many other groups provided gifts from the boys’ wish lists.
