The calendar sales for $10, plus $5 shipping and handling. Proceeds benefit
the thousands of children cared for annually by the Family Resource Center, where the young artists painted their calendar contributions.
The calendar was produced through the art program offered by the center. Students from 7 to 14 spent afternoons at the center receiving art instruction from award-winning painter Mary Kay Wilson.
Well known for her work with watercolors, Wilson’s paintings have been exhibited at both regional and national art shows.
At the weekly art sessions, students were taught a variety of watercolor techniques along with basic drawing concepts. According to Wilson, who has led the sessions for the last two years, the program is designed not only to introduce youngsters to the world of watercolors, but also to introduce them to a new, empowering avenue of self-expression.
“I’m very proud of the artwork these students created,” Wilson said. “Their enthusiasm and receptiveness to learning something new was inspiring. Working with this group of young artists was a fantastic experience.”
