There is one institution in our society that provides the most hope for our children when they are in need; more healing and comfort when things reach a point beyond our control, and encouragement for all of us to thrive when individual breakthroughs occur leading us toward better health and happiness. That institution is the family.
In this issue of Happenings, we celebrate the family – their strengths, their ability to adapt to crisis, and the innovative services that have been created in partnership with them. Families are the reason that each of our communities are not just tracts on a Google map but are thriving neighborhoods with healthy people and happy homes. Here at Hathaway-Sycamores we witness each day the importance family has on the healing process and its profound impact on our own individual stories. What we have learned about these families is that they all come in different shapes and sizes, and like life and boxes of chocolates you never know what you’re going to get. We do know that no one is ever born into life alone and when a child comes to our door and the perception is that there is no name or face to link this child back to their family, we say “Thank you, but we’ll take it from here.” We know that child has a place and our Family Finding program will lead us there.
