Earlier this spring, representatives of Hathaway-Sycamores were presented with the prestigious California Award for Performance Excellence (CAPE) Eureka by the California Council for Excellence (CCE). The award marks a major milestone in Hathaway-Sycamores’  “performance excellence” journey which began in 2009.

The CAPE Eureka is the highest level of recognition for Baldrige-based performance excellence in the state of California. Administered by CCE, the CAPE program is committed to helping California organizations in all sectors continuously improve through the application of the Baldrige  principles. Teams from the 2013 CAPE Board of Examiners spent three months, including a weeklong site visit, rigorously assessing the Eureka recipients’ 50-page applications, which address the seven categories of the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence: Leadership; Strategic Planning; Customer Focus; Measurement, Analysis, and Knowledge Management; Workforce Focus; Operations Focus; and Results. The evaluation of Eureka applications is overseen by the CAPE Panel of Judges to ensure the integrity of the process and to recommend recognition levels to the CCE Board of Directors for ratification.

John Corbett, Chair of CAPE, said, “It is truly my pleasure to congratulate all the organizations that participated in this year’s CAPE Eureka Process. These Eureka recipients demonstrated tremendous dedication, through countless hours of work by all levels of staff, to continually refine their processes, and improve the quality of their products and services for their customers, community and the overall strength of business in California.”

Commenting on receipt of a CAPE Eureka Award, Hathaway-Sycamores’ President and CEO William Martone said, “To receive this level of recognition for performance excellence validates our organization’s commitment to providing high-quality care and impactful services to the children, youth, young adults and families who turn to Hathaway-Sycamores for help.  Every member of our staff is committed to continual improvement and best practices, and this award reflects that shared commitment.”
