Former Foster Youth Welcome Summer

On a recent afternoon, staff and former foster youth from Hathaway-Sycamores Transition Age Youth (TAY) Programs got together to kick off summer with a Hawaiian themed barbeque. Hathaway-Sycamore BBQThe atmosphere was cheerful at the annual event, and there was plenty of food for the hungry crowd to enjoy. According to Sam Gonzalez, AVP of Supportive Housing, “This is a fun reward for all the hard work everyone does during the year.” Lindsey Bogan, Clinical Director of TAY Programs added, “The purpose of the event is to assist in building relationships with the staff and clients. It provides them with an environment that is different than their normal daily interactions with staff.” Hathaway-Sycamore BBQThe barbeque certainly did that, as highlights of the afternoon’s festivities included a friendly water balloon fight. Several staff members seemed to be favorite targets. Through the TAY Program, Hathaway-Sycamores provides housing and support services ‒ including job training ‒ to assist recently emancipated foster youth make the transition to flourishing independent adults.
