Celebrating Children Honorees Annsley and George Strong

Annsley Strong’s roots with Hathaway-Sycamores run deep. Specifically, Annsley was first introduced to our agency when she was a member of the Los Altos Auxiliary, which raises funds for the children and teens who are in residential treatment at our El Nido campus in Altadena. As Annsley recalls, the Auxiliary decided to devote its fund-raising efforts to our organization “because we liked that Hathaway-Sycamores had started as Pasadena’s first orphanage and was a local agency.”

Hathaway-Sycamores Celebrating Children Honorees, Annsley and George Strong

Annsley and George Strong display their Dodger pride.

The Los Altos Auxiliary served as a bridge to Hathaway-Sycamores, and Annsley – along with her husband George Strong, Jr. – has been actively involved ever since. She has served on our Board of Directors for 13 years and held the position of Board Chair from 2006 to 2008. Annsley currently serves on our Advisory Board and is a member of the Strategic Planning Committee. Annsley says that she was motivated to join Hathaway-Sycamores’ Board because “I was well aware that our children had what a lot of kids don’t have – an intact, supportive family unit that’s not struggling. I wanted our children to be aware how lucky they were and to understand the importance of helping those who aren’t as fortunate.” The Strongs – who are longtime residents of La Cañada Flintridge – have three adult daughters and one son. When Annsley first joined Hathaway-Sycamores’ Board, one of the first things she did was bring her brood to our El Nido campus, where she and her kids spent much of the summer sharing their soccer expertise with the boys in residential care. Annsley, in particular, had a lot to share, having coached soccer for 15 years and having served as Commissioner for the American Youth Soccer Organization’s Region 13. In addition to soccer, Annsley’s talent extends to the interior-design field. Annsley earned a History of Art degree from Wheaton College and then attended the New York School of Interior Design. She went on to open her own firm – Annsley Interiors – which later became Strong Studio Designs. Annsley, who is now semi-retired, recently turned over the reins of Strong Studio Designs to her daughter, Courtney. Annsley and George Strong have a long history of giving back. Not only have the Strongs given generously to Hathaway-Sycamores, but they share their time and talents with other organizations as well. For her part, Annsley has been actively involved with Verdugo Hills Hospital for decades, including twice serving as Chair of its Foundation, and most recently as Chair of Verdugo Hills Hospital’s Board of Directors. George, who by trade is both an attorney and CPA currently serving as Managing Director with the financial consulting and expert testimony firm Cornerstone Research, is similarly dedicated to charitable causes. Among his many activities, George has been a longtime Board member with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Los Angeles. Hathaway-Sycamores’ annual Celebrating Children Award is presented to an individual or family that exemplifies the values of integrity, leadership and commitment to the well-being of children, adults, families, and communities. Annsley and George Strong fit that description to a tee, and on September 16th – at storied Dodger Stadium – it will be our honor to present the Strongs with this much deserved recognition. Guests will not only have the entire stadium to themselves, but they will be joined by Dodger great and six-time National League All-Star Ron Cey. If you would like to come celebrate, click here to purchase tickets online or email or call Andi Sica at (626) 395-7100 ext. 2516. Tribute Journal Ads also available, please contact Andi Sica to place your ad.
