Broadway star and recording artist Crystal Starr brightened the holidays by holding a concert for Los Angeles area foster children and foster families. Over 500 children and families filled the historic Arc Theatre in Los Angeles for “A Crystal Starr Christmas,” which was headlined by Starr, who was featured in the hit Broadway musical “Baby It’s You!” The talent-filled evening—which was produced by American Music Awards and World Music Awards producer Vincent Versher, and Broadway producer Brandon Wardell —included performances by actor/singer Wayne Brady who sang This Christmas, Leon Thomas III from the Nickelodeon show “Victorious” and Roshon Fegan from Disney’s “Camp Rock” and “Shake It Up” who performed All I Want for Christmas, singer/songwriter Judith Hill performed Silent Night with Crystal Starr, and Gabe Roland, Timothy and Malik performed It’s Christmas. Broadway actresses and singers Lexi Lawson and Arielle Jacobs performed O Happy Day and talked to the audience about their “Girls Camaraderie Project.” And the Compton High School Drum Line revved up the Arc Theater with their explosive performances. The performers were backed up by the Ryan Cross’ Elevation Orchestra and Oaks Middle School Choir. The kids had a chance to take photos with Santa, and the stars, and all foster kids in attendance received a gift.

Having grown up with neighborhood foster children, Starr says she feels compelled to help these youngsters, many of whom have endured unimaginable trauma. As she puts it, “Working with these kids makes me realize the reason I was given the gift of music; it’s so that I can give back and try to empower these kids to believe in themselves.”
