Pasadena Resident Rides from Coast to Coast in Less Than 50 Hours to Benefit Hathaway-Sycamores

Fueled by a desire to help children and equipped with superhuman stamina, longtime Pasadena resident and realtor Roland Wilhelm revved up his 2011 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic on Friday, Aug. 3, and left the shores of San Diego. From there, the father of five hit the road for a grueling, 2,400-mile coast-to-coast ride that he intended to complete in less than 50 hours. As planned, on Sunday, Aug. 5, Roland, a senior partner with Pasadena’s Deasy/Penner & Partners real estate firm, arrived in Jacksonville, Fla.  Click here to show your support for Roland and make a donations to Hathaway-Sycamores. So far Roland’s ride has raised $6,200.00 (Last updated 8/14/12 11:00 am)

Roland thus decided to combine two of his fervent passions—helping children in need and long-distance-motorcycle riding. Regarding the latter, he became a member of the Iron Butt Association—a 53,000-member organization that’s dedicated to safe, long-distance-motorcycle riding—in 2010 by completing a 1,000-mile ride in 24 hours. Last year, Roland traversed a 1,400-mile ride—from Mexico to Canada—in 24 hours.  This ride—sanctioned by the Iron Butt Association—is his longest, and most meaningful to date. To meet the ride’s distance and time requirements, Roland had to average 57 miles per hour, 24 hours per day.

Roland let us know that he arrived safely, “We reached Jacksonville beach in under 48 hours! Lots of rain and heat, but we had an amazing journey.” Roland’s trip back to California was done at a more leisurely pace.

Hathaway-Sycamores is deeply appreciative of Roland’s unique fund-raising effort and hopes that safety accompanies him from coast to coast. Click here to read the Pasadena Star News August 3, 2012 article about Roland’s trip. Click here to watch Roland’s interview on KFMB News.
